Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, Arab League fund designed to promote economic and social development of Arab countries. Established in May 1968, the fund commenced operations in 1972 and serves 20 Arab countries and the Palestine Liberation Organization.
By financing development projects, the fund encourages investment of public and private capital in Arab economies. It grants loans on easy terms to governments and to both private and public institutions for projects of specific interest to Arabs. The fund also provides assistance and technical expertise in various economic fields. Headquarters are in Safat, Kuwait.
