Pied Beauty, sonnet by Gerard Manley Hopkins, composed in the summer of 1877 and published in 1918 in the posthumous collection Poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins. The poem, one of his best known, celebrates the singularity and variety of nature, challenging the Platonic ideal of perfect beauty. It is a curtal sonnet, with an opening section of six lines and a closing section of slightly more than four lines.
