Werner Aspenström (born November 13, 1918, Norrbärke, Sweden—died January 1997) was a Swedish lyrical poet and essayist.
Aspenström’s images are characterized by intensity and a rare lyrical quality. In the cycle Snölegend (1949; “Snow Legend”), Litania (1952; “Litany”), and Hundarna (1954; “The Dogs”), the poet treats his metaphysical and social concerns in a symbolic form. Aspenström also wrote a number of poetic dramas. He re-created the world of his childhood in Bäcken (1958; “The Brook”), a series of short stories. He wrote several collections of essays on current issues, including Sommar (1968; “Summer”) and Skäl (1970; “Arguments”).
