Jinan Joudeh has studied English and American Literature at Duke, Sussex, and Yale universities. She is currently working on modernist American fiction in the context of friendship, marriage, and theory. She is also a contributor to 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die (2012), where an earlier version of this Britannica entry first appeared.
