Albrecht Socin, who also published under the name Albert Socin, was a philologist at the University of Tübingen from 1876 to 1890 and specialized in Middle Eastern languages, cultures, and archaeology. He was one of hundreds of scholars who contributed to the Ninth Edition of Encyclopædia Britannica (1875–89). His contributions, signed with the initials A.So., included entries on "Palestine," "Phoenicia", "Sinai," and "Syria."
