Arandas, city, eastern Jalisco estado (state), west-central Mexico. It is situated on the Mesa Central at an elevation of 5,873 feet (1,790 metres). Arandas is the commercial and manufacturing centre of an agricultural (beans and wheat) and pastoral region that produces linseed oil, tequila, pottery, woolen blankets, and straw hats. It is accessible by highway from Guadalajara, the state capital, 86 miles (138 km) to the west. Pop. (2005) 46,099; (2010) 52,175.
