Clitunno River, river in Umbria regione, central Italy, rising from an abundant spring between Spoleto and Trevi and flowing 37 miles (60 km) northwest to join the Timia, a tributary of the Tiber (Tevere) River. The spring was described by the Roman writers Virgil and Pliny the Younger and was visited by the emperors Caligula and Flavius Honorius.
