Haramukh, mountain peak of the Great Himalayas in Jammu and Kashmir union territory, northern India (the Indian-administered portion of the Kashmir region). Overlooking the Vale of Kashmir, Haramukh rises to 16,872 feet (5,143 meters) and is located some 22 miles (35 km) north of Srinagar. As with most of the Himalayan peaks, it has a core dating to Precambrian time—i.e., with rock that is more than 540 million years old.
