Moroleón, city, southern Guanajuato estado (state), north-central Mexico. It lies at 5,814 feet (1,772 metres) above sea level in the Bajío region. Moroleón is the commercial and manufacturing centre for the surrounding farms and ranches. Corn (maize), beans, alfalfa, wheat, chickpeas, and onions thrive in the cool climate, and livestock and poultry raising are widespread. Shoes and rebozos (shawls) are the principal manufactures. The city is situated on a highway linking Salamanca, to the north, and Morelia, the capital of Michoacán state, to the south. Pop.
