Mussoorie, town, northwestern Uttarakhand state, northern India. It is situated about 20 miles (32 km) north of Dehra Dun, the capital of Uttarakhand.

Mussoorie lies at an elevation of 6,932 feet (2,112 metres) on a ridge in the foothills of the Himalayas, amid picturesque mountain scenery. The town is a popular summer resort for residents of Delhi and the plains of northern India. The climate and surroundings make Mussoorie a suitable site for several residential schools. The town also has a botanical garden and is the summer seat of various Indian government offices. The first brewery in India was established there in 1850. Nearby sites include Gun Hill, which offers a spectacular view of the Himalayas and Mussoorie; Camel’s Back Road, for hiking and horseback riding; and the Kempty, Jharipani, Bhatta, and Mossey waterfalls and surrounding forests. Pop. (2001) 26,075; (2011) 30,118.
