Prestwick, burgh (town), South Ayrshire council area, historic county of Ayrshire, western Scotland, on the Firth of Clyde and contiguous with the city of Ayr to the south. Prestwick’s international airport has grown because of its proximity to Glasgow and its favourable climatic conditions and has generated a significant local aerospace industry. The town also features several coastal golf courses and other leisure facilities. Pop. (2001) 15,170; (2011) 14,900.
