Sete Lagoas, city, central Minas Gerais estado (state), eastern Brazil. Sete Lagoas lies in the Brazilian Highlands near the Espinhaço Mountains. It is a commercial centre for an agricultural region that raises corn (maize), feijão (beans), sugarcane, cassava (manioc), and rice, as well as livestock. Manufacturing and dairy and food-processing plants are in the city. Sete Lagoas is on the highway between Rio de Janeiro and Brasília and is easily accessible from Belo Horizonte, the state capital, only 42 miles (68 km) to the southeast. King of the Woods Cave is a nearby tourist attraction. Pop. (2010) 214,152.
