fictional characters
Mr. and Mrs. Antrobus, fictional characters, protagonists of Thornton Wilder’s The Skin of Our Teeth (1942). George Antrobus and his wife, Maggie (who is always referred to as “Mrs. Antrobus”), are Adam and Eve as well as Everyperson figures. George represents the creative genius of humanity’s learning and culture: the wheel and the lever are his inventions, and he is now developing the alphabet. Mrs. Antrobus tends the hearth and protects their children. Throughout the ages the family barely escapes annihilation “by the skin of their teeth.”
