Tyrone family, doomed fictional family, the four protagonists of the starkly autobiographical drama Long Day’s Journey into Night (produced posthumously 1956) by Eugene O’Neill. The play concerns a father (James), mother (Mary), and two sons (Jamie and Edmund), all based closely on O’Neill’s own troubled family.
