American mixed martial artist Ronda Rousey began her sports career in judo competitions, making her Olympic debut in 2004 on the U.S. judo team in Athens and later winning a bronze medal in the women's middleweight judo event at the 2008 Beijing Games. Rousey then shifted to mixed martial arts (MMA), and she quickly came to be considered the top star in women's MMA; in 2012 she became the Ultimate Fighting Championship's first female champion. Rousey pivoted again in 2018, announcing in January that she was joining World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) as a full-time professional wrestler.
