Surmic languages, group of languages that are spoken in southwestern Ethiopia and neighbouring zones of South Sudan and that form part of the Nilo-Saharan language family. The three branches of Surmic languages are the Northern, represented by the Majang language; the Southwestern, including Baale, Didinga, Narim, Murle, and Tennet; and the Southeastern, including Chai, Kwegu, Me’en, Mursi, and Tirma.
