1Pres. Mohamed Bazoum was deposed in a military coup on July 26, 2023. The military suspended the constitution and dissolved government institutions. On July 28, Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani was declared president of the newly formed transitional military council, the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Country. On August 7, the council appointed Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine as acting prime minister. |
